Witch API or SDK?

Hi to all, i’m a newbie in SIP protocol and i had to develop a client softwart with audio and video capability. Can anyone suggest whitch api to use?
I’ve studied the protocol’s elements but now i’m searching for a free implementation; i’ve foundend same java/c++ api, but i’m not very sure about them.
