    Hi,

I have hooked-up my new VoIP gateway from Comwave.Net. I am trying to understand what is hapenning here.

    MY SETUP:
    Videotron High Speed Internet (5.1Mbps)
    D-Link Router (DI-604)
    Comwave iPhone gateway (D-Link DG-102S)
    g.711 codec
    DSC Power832 alarm panel
    SIA format dialing, using DTMF

    PROBLEM:
I am not able to get my ADT alarm system to communicate with the ADT host.

    SYMPTOMS:
When dialing the 1-866-xxx-xxxx ADT Host phone number with a regular POTS line, I can hear a long dial-tone (handshake?) from the host. If I dial the same phone number with the VoIP iPhone, the host dial-tone is extremely short. So, when my alarm is trying to contact the host via the VoIP line, it never completes the handshake because, I guess, the first host signal is too short. I even listened to the line while the alarm panel is dialing out: it dials, the host picks-up, hear a short dial-tone, then nothing. If I connect the panel to the POTS line once again, it works like it’s suppose to.

    QUESTION:
Why would the host handshake dial-tone be shorter with my VoIP line?

Thanks a lot for your help!

voip and modems do not mix at all. You are lucky if you could get a fax to operate over VOIP.

Modems: will depend on the provider that you use and the speed that you are trying, but I will bet 100 to 1 that It will not work.

    Sorry for the news.
