I am curious to know, it appears that this is a common problem that nobody had the answer to include the VoIP providers. When a call initiates sometime when using services like SkypeOut etc.. billing starts before the call has actually answered, is this something to do with time delay? i.e. it starts billing after 3 seconds whether connected or not? Or is there another reason that this could be due to?
It is called “False Answer Supervision” and is a sign of a low quality carrier or someone who is trying to charge you for calls when noboby even picks up the phone. You’re throwing away money
This happens only on analog lines (analog = not ISDN, or R2) with gateways who do not support (or are misconfigured) voice based answer/disconnect supervision.
So, if your calls are to “civilised” countries like North America and Europe, this won’t be a problem.
