Hi,
My name is Hermawan and I’m a student in Telecomunication Engineering.
I want to know about VOIP via satellite. Its disadvantage and advantage . Opportunities and chalangges. Thanks in advance
The average delay on satellite is 500-600ms round trip. You have to make sure that the delay is not more than 1000ms. My larger circuits are via satellite and they work just fine. You have to make sure that the satellite levels are always at a good level and that you use C-band and not KU-Band. C Band is not affected as much by weather. Ku is just like the directv service where if it rains or a big cloud gets in the way you loose the signal.
I agree. C-Band is the way to go for reliability – 99.99%. Ku is good (dishes can be smaller) but the cost of equipment (and not the off the shelf toys) and bandwidth is more than that of C.
How do you find your voice quality over satellite?
