GPRS over satellite

    Which is the usual GPRS throughput in a cell with abis over satellite? ( in the field, not in theory)

    Hi Ater,
    2 things that you should expect,
    *higher duration on the TBF establishment process.
    *and field throughput < 12 kbps rp

    np, if you can post some of your results.
    in the past I had around 15-20 cells with SAT Abis, and had never surpassed the 12kbps threshold, think the main reason is some phenomen with the packet windows size that limit the throughput to those levels..

    thanks Spit for this interesting info.

    I also think that the poor throughput is due to the window size. Have you tried increasing it on your computer (when using the phone as a modem) ?

    The cells that we’ve tested never surpassed 17kbps
    We’ve tested two types of links ( with and without bandwidth compression)and the results were similar in both cases
