During cell reselection, who taked the decision for cell reselection. MS or BTS?
IF MS then how it give update to BSC (on which channel), if BTS then on which channel MS sends measurement in idle mode??15th June 2008 at 16:03 #52744pixGuestyou are talking about cell reselection during CS Idle Mode ?
1. the MS performs measurements on the BCCH of serving cell and neighbor cells. If the C1 / C2 of a neighbor is better than C2 of serving cell, then it decides to perform reselection.
2. the MS doesn’t give an update to the BSC. Actually only in case the reselected cell belongs to another LAC, then the MS will perform a LOCATION UPDATE procedure, to update its LAC in the VLR/HLR. This is done on the SDCCH channel.
3. MS in idle mode does not send measurements to the BSC.

Do you think extended BCCH improves 2G-3G cell reselection in PS transfert mode ?
9th July 2010 at 07:21 #52746Cell Re-selectionGuestHi Pix
I have following questions:
1. If handover was not defined between two cells, is it possible cell re-selection between these cells?
2. Do Cell Re-selection performed by MS or BSC according to which criteria?
3. Does re-selection depend on vendors?
9th July 2010 at 07:58 #52747SotonGuest1) Yes it will reselect it but BCCH has to be defined in IDLE BA list
2) MS do cell reselection by using C2 criteria
3)MS will only camp (for emergency calls only) on other operator if its in no coverage area.
9th July 2010 at 09:09 #52748Cell Re-selectionGuestThanks, so:
1. In this case MS should has Idle BA list, right? If yes, how does it know it?
2. In this case MS re-select by using C2 not BSC, but what about Handover?
3. In emergency cases, does MS need SDCCH or not?
Thanks in advance

1. In this case MS should has Idle BA list, right? If yes, how does it know it?
—-> the cell is broadcasting the Idle BA list on its BCCH. All MS which are reselected (camping) on this cell must listen to the BCCH.2. In this case MS re-select by using C2 not BSC, but what about Handover?
——> handovers are only used in dedicated mode. HO are decided by BSC, they are not based on C1 and C2 criteria.3. In emergency cases, does MS need SDCCH or not?
——-> emergency cases of what ? of HO ? then… no the Ho during a call never uses a SDCCH. All the signalling goes through the TCH (the FACCH to be precise).regards

Thanks for your explanations:
3. In emergency cases, does MS need SDCCH or not?
——-> emergency cases of what ? of HO ? then… no the Ho during a call never uses a SDCCH. All the signalling goes through the TCH (the FACCH to be precise).I mean Emergency Call (112) which no need SIM Card.
21st July 2010 at 08:03 #52753pixGuestyes, in emergency call, the typical call setup procedure is used :
SDCCH phase, then TCH allocation, etc. -
