SDCCH drop

    Hello. Can somebody help me? Which are the reasons for SDCCH drop. When SDCCH drop of one cell rises, then what will be the reason? The number of Location updates is the same as it was. So obviously the cell has a problem.

    hi,

    if it rises by itself, even though you didn’t change anything on the radio or configuration side, then:
    – external interferer
    – faulty hw in the bts (or bsc ?)
    – faulty transmission on abis
    – faulty MS

    that’s all i can think of. do you have other suggestions?

    Hmm,no i haven’t.I check for interference, but it is like previously.I will check Abis interfece, but i am sure that this is not the problem .So may be i will try to looking for interference attentively.

    Pix, what kind of interference do you mean? Interference from other cells(e.g. adjacent cell with bad frequency)or interference from different HW.And please define ulty MS.

    external interference = interference from other systems (other operators, or other RF systems such as radards, TV, Radio, etc)

    In my assumptions, i assume that NOTHING have changed on the radio interface (same freq. as before, same parameters, for all surrounding cells). Therefore there cannot be a sudden increase of SD Drop due to a sudden interference from a neighbour cell. Indeed, the frequencies were not changed!

    JE – Ok. What about hw problems in the BTS?

    HW problems in the BTS are one possible solution of the problem…for now i can’t check this so fast…but really this is the thing that i will try to understand. The cell is in big city so external interference is option.

    Hi,
    in a couple of cells suddenly the sdcch traffic increased from around 7 erlang to around 36 erlang. Sdcch congestion increased to more than 40%, sdcch assignment is normal under 3%. Sdcch duration average (mean holding time) increased from around 3 seconds to around 16 seconds. What could go wrong? Other indicators related to TCH are fine. I suspected in software (SUM card), but, please, any idea that might resolve this issue!

    hi dell,

    please try to reset the TRX and/or the BTS and/or the SUM. I forgot which one will fix the thing. I think it’s the TRX that needs to be reset.

    Hi Pix,
    thanks. We did all those actions mentioned by you. Still nothing. We even deleted cells and recreated, the same thing. I’m not sure what kind of services are they where sdcch mean holding time is 16 seconds. Maybe it’s real something in the air. I don’t know.

    If nothing find, I suggest use Abis protocol analyzer in that cell to investigate the case.

    Hi,
    we made drive test in the area of a cell which has high sddch duration. We noticed that between LU request and LU accept there is a duration of around 17 seconds. And for LU request normally there was no need because all cells around were in the same LAC. During entering the cell in Idle mode the signal loses (No Service) after a while it began with “Channel request, LU request etc.). Bellow you can see the layer three messages, if you have any idea why it might be happen like that. Could be any equipment nearby which can cause that (a government facility is situated only 100 meters from that cell). If yes, what equipment?

    And according to indicators there is an increase of IMSI Detach rate from 2 percent to 13 percent.
