    I am currently doing a study of traffic utilisation on a PBX. Can someone please tell me what the term ‘switched traffic’ actually means in english. Cheers.

    Could someone tell the difference between PABX and PBX? Do they refer to the same thing?

    PABX Private Automatic Branch Exchange.
    PBX: Private Branch Exhange
    I read some years ago bout differences, I found that PABX is like a small exchange with functions like a Public Exchange, it is oriented to private networks, PBX is a small device that allows to do calls with poor set of features for the lines. At the end of the day I have seen that PABX and PBX becoming the same, because more features are included in the PBX. Hope this could help, more thoughs or corrections are welcome.

    PABX means It’s a small exchange where u multplex the lines.Usual combinations for an analog PABx would be 4:16 (means 4 trunk lines,16 extensions), 16:64 so on.

    Here U need to switch the voice depending on the traffic. Again there are blocked / unblocked PABx.
    In case of unblocked PABx no of trunk and extensions are same.

    Normal features of PABx are call transfer,call pick up, conference, callback so on…

    In the dark ages long ago you had PABX and a PMBX…
    The A=Automatic ie the elextronic switch.
    The M=Manual ie an operator switched.

    Since operator switching went out 40 years ago people use the term PBX

    I need something about PABX and PBX,what is its input and out put.
    Can be the 64K digital line come in PABX. If I need a PBX/16, what is the input? 16 telephone line or a trunk?

    You will need only one 2Mbps PCM link with 30 speech (B-channel) and 1 signalization chanel (D). (ISDN primary access)

    A Private Branch Exchange (PBX) or a Private Automatic Branch Exchange (PABX – which is out of fashion since all modern day PBXs are automatic), is a phone switch serving a business or organization and is usually located on the organization’s premises. The PBX provides phone services including internal calling, and access to the public switched telephone network. It allows a small number of outside lines to be shared among all of the people of the organization. Advanced PBX phone switches sometimes provide auto-attendant, voice-mail, and ACD (automatic call distribution) services for the organization.

    we have a project at school, we need to design a PABX. but i dont even know where to strat, i cant find circuit layouts on the books. can someone help me, give me a link or a design of it. we were ask to connect 8 phones to that PABX, thanks

    PBX,Private Branch Exchange, as the name implies, its a small private telephone exchange, used in organizations for their internal telephone connections. Its also a basic telephone exchange, implemented in small scale unlike large telephone exchanges, but the basic technologies are going to be the same. Nowadays, almost all pbx’s are digital and so it is basically a digital switch, and so the human (analog)voice is converted in to digital using PCM (Pulse Code Modulation), and the pbx switches the pcm coded information from one time slot to other.

    The digital switching two basic components Time Switch and Space Switch. Time Switch swiches the pcm coded voice between the time slot and space switch switches between the highway.For effective utilization in large and medium scale systems, these two components are combined in several combinations for better results. TST, TSST are the most popular configurations. The below links reveals some of the basics of the digital switching with block diagrams and circuits.
