Business Processes are not new. They exist in other industries: Retail, Banking, Manufacturing, etc..

With the success of implementing processes, it made sense to look at adopting business processes for Telecommunication Services. This helps with Time To Market (TTM) and enables the end customer(s) to procure Services and to consume without significant delay. This helps with the overall Customer Experience Management (CEM).

eTOM – Enhanced Telecommunication Operation Map – was introduced by TMF as a common “language” that can be used by Telecommunication CSPs and Vendors (IT, Equipment, etc..). For procurement most Tier-1 CSPs will use eTOM (SID/TAM) in their RFIs, RFQs, RFPs, etc..

As OSS/BSS/IT stack solutions developed there was an urgent need to ensure that all stakeholders had an understanding of where key functionality should be placed along with the respected boundaries.

Look forward to questions around eTOM, processes and performance/dimensioning of systems.
